Description
No. 24 Clifton Road is a house built around 1843 by Walter Scott. It features an ashlar facade that is rusticated at the ground floor, topped with a low-pitched Welsh slate roof. The building is two storeys high and has a symmetrical five-window arrangement with a deep pile plan. The central entrance is set within a Doric portico and is flanked by round-headed sash windows located in arched recesses. The upper storey has 12-pane sash windows with stressed architraves and entablatures, along with a pediment on console brackets above the central window. A moulded cornice and blocking course with a shallow central pediment complete the design. The house has end wall stacks and is part of the original villa estate of Clifton Park, which was laid out by Scott around 1843.
