Description

This house dates to around 1840 and was likely designed by Walter Scott as part of the original Clifton Park development. It is constructed with lined stucco and has a concrete tiled roof. The house is arranged in an L-shape, with a prominent full-height gabled porch in the angle. The porch features a Tudor arched doorway with a hood mould that extends over flanking lancet windows. Above the doorway is a two-light mullioned window, also with a hood mould, and the gable apex is adorned with a stone shield and finial, believed to be the crest of Lord Baden Powell. A projecting gabled wing to the left has a full-height canted bay window to the first floor with sash windows divided by mullions; a larger lower sash window was inserted in the later 19th century. The gable above has coping. A coped-gabled range to the right has a full-height squared bay with two- and four-light mullioned windows. Interior features include an open-string staircase with stick balustrade and moulded newels, along with a skylight above the stair featuring a painted glass panel depicting a rural scene of cows by a river.
