Description
Three cottages, numbers 9, 11, and 13, were built around 1890 by William Owen as part of the Port Sunlight village development. Constructed of brick with a tile-hung gable, they have a hipped tile roof. The houses are two storeys and four bays wide. The third house notably projects forward under a jettied tile-hung gable, which incorporates a porch with a cat-slide roof. The ground floor windows have gauged brick arches, and are mostly sash windows with upper glazing bars. The first bay features paired sashes; the third bay has a three-light casement window with a transom and small upper panes arranged in an arch. The first floor windows are casements with small panes. A hipped half-dormer with a four-light window sits above the first bay, while the second and fourth bays have flat-topped half-dormers. The third bay includes a four-light oriel window. The entrance is topped by a stone lintel, and features a three-panel door with a small-paned window above, flanked by a light. A boot scraper is present below the door. Three chimney stacks are visible. The side returns are similar to the front, with the right return being longer. The rear elevation mirrors the front, featuring two lateral chimney stacks. These are among the earliest houses built in Port Sunlight.
