Description
The terrace wall and ornamental arch to the rose garden were built around 1937 by J. Lomax Simpson. Constructed from stone, the terrace wall on the north side features three rectangular projections and serves as a retaining wall that supports a balustrade. In the center, there is a round-headed recess that contains a lion mask fountain with a very shallow semi-circular bowl in front. To the north of this fountain, there is a semi-circular terrace with projecting returns and steps on either side. To the south, the structure includes an ornamental arch with flanking flat pilasters and an open pediment. On the south side, there are flanking piers topped with scrolly caps and a returned balustrade. This garden marks the end of the axis leading from the Lady Lever Art Gallery.
