Description
The Monument to Queen Victoria is a structure located in Hamilton Square, Birkenhead, built in 1901 by Edmund Kirby. It is made of stone and features an octagonal shaft that is raised on steps. The base has decorated traceried panels, one of which is inscribed with "Victoria Queen and Empress, 1901". At the base of the tall cylindrical shaft, there is a small traceried frieze, and the shaft is adorned with octagonal arcading made of detached silver granite shafts that end in a series of arcaded foiled gablets. This is topped by a second octagonal column with detached shafts and arcading, culminating in a short spire that has a crown finial.
