Description
Garswood Branch Library is a former grammar school, now part of Garswood Roman Catholic Infants School and used as a public library. Founded in 1588, the building is constructed of stone with a slate roof and consists of two storeys and three bays. It features a weathered base, with cross windows on the ground floor that have double-chamfered mullions and transoms. The first floor has two-light mullioned windows. The south facade includes a 20th-century low three-bay projection with two gables. The east gable end has a 20th-century entrance with a cross window above it and a plaque that reads "THE/GERARD/INFANTS SCHOOL/1902." The west gable end is supported by two brick buttresses and has a stone stack. Inside, the first floor has been removed and a new ceiling has been inserted.
