Description
Old Mill Farmhouse and Barn is a late 18th-century farmhouse and barn located on Downhall Green Road in Ashton in Makerfield. The building is constructed of brick with stone slate roofs, while the farmhouse is pebble-dashed. It stands two storeys high and has two bays, with a three-bay barn to the left. The windows feature stone keys, and the ground floor includes a canted bay window with sash windows that have single glazing bars. There are gable-end stacks, and the second bay has a 20th-century casement window. On the first floor, there are boxed sash windows. The barn has an entrance at the rear with doors, while the entrance on the south side is blocked. There is a rear projection under a cat-slide roof that serves as a cow-house. Inside the farmhouse, there is a staircase with a moulded rail and boarded balusters, along with six-fielded panel doors that have H hinges. The barn features king-post trusses.
