Description
This is a cast-iron and glass verandah, dated 1893 and altered subsequently. Designed by Mellor & Sutton, it is attached to shop fronts and forms part of a series of verandahs that define Lord Street. The verandah consists of a 7-bay colonnade with cast-iron columns that also function as downspouts. These columns have splayed feet on cylindrical pedestals, annular enrichment, small Composite capitals, squared stilts, foliated open-work brackets, plain fascia beams, and moulded gutters. The roof is curved glass, except for the final one-and-a-half bays, which now have a single-pitched roof. Former dentillation and cresting have been removed. Numbers 601 to 617 are not included as part of this listing.
