Description
The verandah attached to shops at numbers 459-467 in Southport is likely from the early 20th century and has been altered. It features a five-bay colonnade supported by slender cast-iron columns that have enriched bases, plain shafts, and foliated octagonal caps. Above the columns is a small entablature adorned with a stylized rose motif, and a narrow cast-iron beam that is pierced with stars and supports a moulded gutter. The glass roof is curved over the fourth and fifth bays, while the first three bays have been modified to include angled glazing instead of the original curve. This verandah forms a group with the adjoining buildings at numbers 433-453 on the left and numbers 469-473 on the right, contributing to the distinctive series of verandahs that characterize Lord Street. Numbers 459-467 are not included in this listing.
