Description

The verandah attached to the shop fronts at Lord Street, Southport, was likely built in the early 20th century. It features a structure made of cast iron and glass, consisting of six bays along Lord Street, a canted corner to the left, and a three-bay return to Bold Street. The design includes cast-iron columns with flared enriched pedestals, plain shafts, Composite capitals, and panelled stilts adorned with guilloche enrichment. The open-work brackets display sunflower motifs, and the plain beams support moulded gutters with cresting and branched finials above the columns. The roof is curved glass. This verandah is part of a group that includes the buildings at Nos. 509-515 across Bold Street to the left and the verandah attached to Nos. 525-533 to the right, contributing to the distinctive character of this street. Nos. 517-523 are not included in this listing.
