Description

This is a verandah, likely dating from the early 20th century, attached to shop fronts. It is part of a group of similar verandahs that define the character of Lord Street in Southport. The verandah has four bays and is constructed from cast iron and glass. It features cast-iron columns with flared bases, plain shafts, and square volute capitals. The columns sit on panelled stilts embellished with guilloche decoration and scrolled open-work brackets incorporating wheel motifs. The fascia beams in the first three bays have fringes, though they are mostly hidden by 20th-century fascia boards. The fourth bay has a moulded fascia and a moulded gutter with cresting, supporting a curved glass roof. The verandah forms a group with numbers 535-563 to the left. Numbers 565-571 are not included as part of this structure.
