Description

This is a cast-iron and glass verandah dating to 1883, attached to a row of shops. It spans nine bays, though the buildings it originally served (numbers 393 to 421) are not included in the listing. The verandah features foliated columns with Greek-key enrichment to their bases and crocket caps. There are pierced brackets, plain fascia beams with cresting, and an elaborately scrolled crest situated between the seventh and eighth bays. A curved glass roof covers the structure. Above the ninth bay is a short rail supporting another scrolled crest incorporating the date 1883, topped with a tall finial. The verandah forms a group with number 387 to its left and numbers 423 to 431 to its right, and contributes to the characteristic series of verandahs found along Lord Street.
