GV II

Boundary wall with 3 pairs of gate piers and semicircular garden wall in forecourt of hotel linking the 2 pairs of gate piers to the front. Probably 1877. Red brick walls with pitched sandstone coping and monolithic gate piers. The centre of the wall between the main gateways, which is stepped up, incorporates a carved stone banner lettered: PRINCE OF WALES HOTEL. The gate piers are in Gothic style and lack gates. The south return side of the wall has a matching pair of gate piers. Within the forecourt a semicircular garden is bounded by a low stepped wall with chamfered coping and stone piers at regular intervals surmounted by urns. All stonework is now painted white. Included for group value with Prince of Wales Hotel (qv).
