Description

The Pantheon adjoining Ince Blundell Hall is a Grade II* listed gallery built between 1802 and 1810 for Henry Blundell, who housed his collection of antiquities there. The structure is made of stone and features a lead dome, designed to resemble the Pantheon in Rome. It has a round plan and a tetrastyle Ionic portico on the southeast side. The entrance is flanked by niches and has relief panels above, while the portico is adorned with round niches containing busts. The frieze and pediment of the portico display classical relief panels.

Inside, the gallery is faced with marble and features an Ionic pilastrade with roundels and a frieze with triglyphs. The coffered dome includes ribs of fasces and panels with rosettes. There are four Venetian recesses supported by Ionic columns and dosserets, with large niches in between, flanked by smaller niches that have round recesses above. An octagonal vestibule with round-headed recesses connects the gallery to Ince Blundell Hall.
