Description

INCE BLUNDELL PARK WALL ROAD SD 30 SW (south-west side) 6/68 Pantheon adjoining Ince Blundell Hall 11,lO.68 G.V. II* Gallery. 1802-10. For Henry Blundell, (Housed Blundell's collection of antiquities). Stone with lead dome. Modelled on the Pantheon, Rome. Round on plan, with tetrastyle Ionic portico to south east. Frieze, cornice and large dome with oculus. Entrance flanked by niches and with relief panels above. Portico flanked by round niches with busts. Frieze and pediment of portico have classical relief panels. Interior faced with marble has Ionic pilastrade with roundels and triglyphs in frieze. Coffered dome has ribs of fasces and panels with rosettes. 4 Venetian recesses with Ionic columns and dosserets; between are large niches flanked by smaller niches with round recesses above. Octagonal vestibule with round-headed recesses connects this item with Ince Blundell Hall (q.v.)
