Description

Rigmaiden’s Farmhouse is an early to mid-18th-century farmhouse, located on the north side of Carr House Lane in Ince Blundell and altered since its original construction. It is built of rendered brick with a slate roof. The farmhouse is two storeys high, with a rear third storey, and has two bays. A band runs above the ground floor. The segmental-headed windows now have 20th-century casements. A gabled porch with a round-arched opening provides access to the central entrance, which has a 20th-century door. Three gable-end stacks are present, two to the left gable end. Returns and the rear elevation contain two- and three-light horizontally sliding sash windows with glazing bars. Inside, a closed-string staircase is concealed on the ground and first floors. This staircase features a moulded pulvinated base, slender turned balusters, and a moulded handrail. The original field-panelled doors are retained, and feature wide moulded architraves throughout the farmhouse.
