Description

Box Bush Farmhouse is a farmhouse that may contain some early 16th century fabric but has been significantly altered over time, with 19th century windows. The building is constructed of rendered rubble, with brick stacks and a corrugated iron roof, which may have originally been thatched. There is a lower extension and a return wing with a double Roman or pantile roof. The original layout features a cross-passage unit, with a stack located in the parlour to the left of the entrance. The lower extension on the left has a return wing that projects forward, creating an L-shaped plan, and there is a single-storey lean-to on the far left.

The farmhouse is two storeys high and has various wooden casements. The front of the ground floor includes a three-light window to the left of the door in a gabled porch, followed by another three-light window and a part-glazed door. Above the porch is a square opening, with a small two-light window to the right. The hipped end facing the road has a three-light window on the ground floor. The back of the building is mostly plain, featuring a flush gable on the left and a small two-light window on the ground floor.

Inside, the farmhouse retains a four-compartment ceiling with 16th century moulded beams and a large open fireplace with a wooden lintel that supports a series of trefoil-headed panels, with jambs that end in half-diamond stops. On the first floor, there is an elliptical-headed door frame that is plain chamfered and features half-pyramid stops. The roof space is not accessible.
