Description
Holt Farmhouse is a farmhouse with origins dating back to the 16th century, featuring a west block from the late 16th or early 17th century, along with later alterations and additions. The building is constructed from rubble, rendered at the front, with brick elements and a pantiled roof that has a north gable stack with a diagonal chimney and a brick south gable stack. The north addition has a double Roman tiled roof. Originally designed with a two-room plan, it has been extended to form an L-plan.
The farmhouse is 1½ storeys tall and has two windows, with a small gable on the left and a gable end on the right, each featuring a two-light casement window; the left window has a timber lintel. On the ground floor, there is a three-light casement window to the left and a gabled porch with a heavy door that has a chamfered frame and scroll stops, as well as strap hinges with fleur-de-lys ends.
To the right, there is a single-storey addition made of brick and rubble with a pitched roof, which includes a 19th-century pointed arched door and a 20th-century window. On the left, there is a single-storey former bakehouse with a plank door and a brick gable stack. The east elevation features two small gables, each with a 20th-century two-light window and timber lintel. The ground floor on the left shows remnants of a projecting oven, along with a two-light and a three-light casement window and a 20th-century door, as well as a single-storey 20th-century addition to the north.
The rear of the farmhouse has small gables to the north and west, with the west side featuring a two-light window with a chamfered mullion and frame, which is blocked to the north. There is also a blocked stair window to the west, with the timber lintel remaining. The ground floor has a two-light window with a timber lintel to both the north and west, with the north window having a chamfered mullion and frame. A 20th-century rear addition includes a buttress, door, and window.
Inside, the farmhouse features chamfered beams with scroll stops, and the passage is separated from the west room by a fixed dresser and settle with shaped ends. The door frame to the east is chamfered and cut back for the passage of barrels, and there is a winder stair at the rear of the former hall, along with deep splayed reveals to the windows.
