Description
The former lock-up, now used as a store, is located to the east of Lodge Number 2 on Botanic Road in Churchtown, Southport. It was likely built in 1876 and has been altered since then. The building is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, featuring a blue brick band and sandstone dressings. It has a polygonal slate roof adorned with a green fishscale band and branched finials.
The exterior of the lock-up is small and oriented on an east-west axis, with canted ends. It is a single-storey structure with a canted west front that includes false windows on two sides and a doorway on the third side. The windows have painted glazing bars, and the door is panelled, all topped with shouldered stone heads. A blue brick band runs around the building, and the eaves are bracketed.
The interior has not been inspected. This lock-up forms part of a group with No.1 Lodge, No.2 Lodge, and the associated gate posts and gates at the entrance to the Botanic Gardens.
