Description
Fern House is a fern house located in the Botanic Gardens, likely built around 1876. It is constructed of red brick in English garden wall bond and features a whitewashed glass roof. The building has a long rectangular shape oriented on a north-south axis and is a single storey. The east wall is very plain, with simple doorways at each end and a series of stone brackets shaped like rainwater hoppers. The interior has not been inspected, but it is noted to be very fine, with walls covered in rustic pumice stone arranged to resemble grottoes, along with inset rockery stone, mirrors, and pools, creating a suitable setting for rare ferns.
