Description
The gate piers and gates at the east entrance to the Botanic Gardens in Southport were likely built around 1876. They are made of wrought iron and consist of a double pair of carriage gates, which are flanked by single pedestrian gates. All gates feature a bar railing design with fleur-de-lys finials, dog bars, diamond bracing in the lower panels, and arch bracing in the upper sections. The square cage piers are decorated with circular and heart-shaped motifs and topped with swept pyramidal caps that have poppy-seed finials.
