Description

The International Hotel is a public house located in Crosby, likely built between 1890 and 1910, with some alterations. It features red brick construction with painted stone dressings and a slated mansard roof, showcasing a flamboyant Renaissance style. The building has a wedge-shaped plan situated on an acutely-angled corner site.

The exterior consists of two storeys plus a full attic storey, with six windows facing Church Road, one at the angle, and seven on Waterloo Road. The facades are very regular, featuring a plinth, closely-grouped openings, a frieze with decorative panels, a prominent dentilled cornice, and a striking skyline created by segmental-pedimented attic windows topped with pineapple finials, along with an enriched triumphal arch above the angle window.

On the ground floor, there are round-headed windows and doorways adorned with elaborate eared architraves that include cornices and shallow segmental pediments. These architraves are connected at mid-height by square panels featuring raised roundels. The first-floor windows are framed with moulded architraves that have swags at the top, along with pulvinated friezes and moulded cornices. The attic windows, which break through a corniced brick parapet, are fitted with pilastered architraves and the previously mentioned segmental pediments. All windows are sashed without glazing bars. The interior is believed to have been altered.
