Description
52 and 54 Waterloo Road are a pair of small houses built in the mid-19th century, with slight alterations. They are constructed of red and yellow brick in Flemish bond, creating a speckled appearance, and feature painted stone dressings and a slate roof. Designed in a late Georgian style, each house has a double-depth plan and is single-fronted. The buildings are two storeys high with a symmetrical arrangement of two windows on each floor. They have a first-floor sill band, a dentilled frieze, and bracketed eaves.
The doorways are round-headed and located to the right and left, each surrounded by a rusticated frame with a keystone, a panelled door, and a plain fanlight. The ground floor has large canted bay windows, each topped with a dentilled cornice and blocking course, featuring sashes without glazing bars. The first floor has rectangular windows, with No.54 having 4-pane sashes and No.52 having altered glazing. A large cruciform chimney is situated at the centre of the ridge. The rear and interior of the houses were not inspected. These houses form a group with Nos. 58 and 58A to the left.
