Description

Priory Cottage is a pair of houses, likely dating from the late 18th century and subsequently altered. The exterior is white-painted render, probably on a brick structure, with a slate roof. The houses follow a single-depth plan.

They are single-storey, with two windows to No.53 and three windows to No.53A. No.53 features two small-paned casement windows of 20th-century origin, and a flat-roofed, glazed porch situated between them. No.53A has transomed casement windows with two, three, and three lights respectively. A gable chimney is located to the left of No.53, while a ridge chimney is positioned on No.53A. The interior was not inspected.

The cottages form a pleasing group with No.54 opposite and with the surrounding similar houses on Shellfield Road, which, though variously altered, collectively represent the pre-industrial character of the area.
