Description
Willow Cottage is a pair of houses, likely built in the late 18th century, with some alterations. The exterior features white painted roughcast, which is probably over brick, a slate roof, and a brick chimney. The layout is a single-depth, four-unit plan that was originally partitioned into three plus one but has been modified to two plus two. There is an added outshut at the front of the fourth unit and 20th-century additions at the rear.
The building is single storey and has two plus one windows, all of which are 20th-century three-light casements. The doorway of No. 42 is located next to the outshut. There is a ridge chimney at the former junction and a gable chimney to the left, with raised coping on the right-hand gable.
The interior has not been inspected. Willow Cottage is part of a group of similar houses on Shellfield Road, all of which have been altered but still represent the pre-industrial character of the area.
