Description
A row of four houses, now three dwellings, likely dating to the early to mid-18th century and subsequently altered. Numbers 17 and 19 are constructed of whitewashed brick, while numbers 21 and 23 have a white-painted rendered facade. The roof is of graduated slate with brick chimneys. Numbers 17 and 19 have a full double-depth plan, the others are one-and-a-half depth, and originally all presented a single frontage.
The exterior is two storeys with a four-window range. Doorways are present to the left, the original doorway to number 19 now blocked. The doorways to numbers 17 and 21 have square heads with wooden frames and board doors, while the doorway to number 23 has been heightened and features a 20th-century glazed door. Number 17 has a three-light sliding sash window at ground floor and a small two-light sliding sash above, both with glazing bars. Numbers 19 and 21 have three-light sliding sashes with small panes and glazing bars at ground floor, with lower three-light windows above, which are now casements but otherwise similar. Number 23 has a 20th-century bow window at ground floor and an enlarged window above. Ridge chimneys are present. At the rear, numbers 21 and 23 have gabled dormers.
The interior was not inspected. The group value of the houses is enhanced by their relationship to numbers 11 and 13 to the left, and to numbers 14-18 opposite.
