Description

Lunt House Farmhouse is a house, possibly dating from the early 18th century, as indicated by its appearance on an estate map of 1769. It is constructed of brick with stone detailing, and originally had a thatched roof, though this has been replaced by corrugated iron. The house is two storeys high and has three bays, with the first bay being an addition. The front has a stone base to the first bay, and stone quoins to the other bays. A brick band runs above the ground floor. It features segmental-headed windows with casements, a blocked fire window at one end, and a segmental-headed entrance between the second and third bays. Gable-end stacks are also present, with the stack on the left corresponding to the original gable. A lower one-and-a-half storey wing extends to the right and rear, built of stone. The interior retains chamfered beams and an inglenook fireplace with a bressumer beam and smoke hood. A wide-boarded door provides access. The first floor also has a fireplace and breast in front of the smoke hood. The front wall is topped with stone coping and roll moulding, and includes three stone blocks forming a mounting block. This is a rare example of a cottage that still retains its smoke hood.
