Description
The Florence Nightingale Monument is a mural monument located on Princes Road, dating from 1913. It was created by the sculptors Willink and Thicknesse, with C.J. Allen as the sculptor. The monument is made of stone and features a relief carving of "Lady with Lamp" caring for two wounded soldiers. It is framed by a battered architrave with an inscription underneath, all set within an Ionic aedicule topped with acroteria. There are flanking inscription panels, although the lead letters are deteriorating. The walls on either side of the monument have channelled rustication and short returns that end with piers, and there are seats with wing arm rests.
