Description
The boathouse at the south end of the lake in Princes Park was built around 1842, likely designed by John Robertson under the supervision of Sir Joseph Paxton. It features a timber frame with horizontal boards set on a rock-faced stone base, a stone chimney, and a concrete tile roof. The building is designed in a gabled chalet style, characterized by overhanging eaves that extend over external stairs, decorative bargeboards, and a fretted balcony above a square window on the land side, although the balcony has been missing since 1984. The staircase has fretted balustrading, with a door located beneath the stairs, similar to the rear entrance, which lacks balusters. The sides of the boathouse are adorned with ornamental fretting.
