Description
Christ Church is a church built between 1870 and 1871 by architects Culshaw and Sumners. It is constructed of stone and features banded slate roofs. The church has a six-bay nave with aisles beneath cross gables and diagonally placed porches at the west end. The chancel includes a north tower and porch, as well as a south vestry. The west end showcases a five-light window with Geometrical tracery, while the aisles have three-light windows positioned between buttresses. The clerestory is adorned with pointed arched lunettes. The tower is supported by angle buttresses and features three-light bell openings with deep louvres; the central light has a balcony on angel corbels, flanked by shafts that support a gabled and traceried hood. The tower is topped with a broach spire that has bowed broaches. The two-bay porch has a hipped roof with cresting and gabled entrances to the east and north, each with one order. The canted chancel includes a three-light east window with a gable above, and the angles have lancets. The chancel has a parapet and a hipped roof with cresting. The three-bay vestry has an entrance accessed by steps and features a hipped roof with cresting and a cross-axial stack. The interior has not been inspected.
