Description
The Cottage, part of Grange Mews Riding School House, was originally built as stables for Lord Wavertree's polo ponies and has since been converted into houses. The entrance lintel of The Cottage features the inscription "W 1895. R.T. Beckett". The building is constructed of brick with a timbered first floor and has slate roofs with tile ridges. It is a single storey with an attic, consisting of four bays that include mullioned windows with leaded glazing, and gables on the second and fourth bays. The entrance on the return side has a shaped lintel and there are three brick stacks.
Grange Mews comprises ten bays with low 20th-century casements set between flat buttresses. The third, sixth, and ninth bays feature gabled dormers; the third bay includes a loading door with flanking lights, while the others have casements. The fourth, seventh, and tenth bays are designed with battered, open louvres topped with shallow pyramidal roofs and finials, along with a gabled carriage entrance. The riding school house retains one original bay, with a 20th-century bay added to the right. The Mews were originally stables and have undergone significant reconstruction at the rear during their conversion to houses.
