Description

This building comprises a shop, offices, and flats above, dating from the 1890s and designed by A. Thomas. It is constructed of stone and features a timbered first floor that is jettied on brackets, with a decorated bressumer and pargeted panels cast from Flemish 17th-century Biblical scenes, all topped by a tile roof. The building is two storeys high with an attic, spanning two bays and incorporating a canted corner bay and two bays facing Sandfield Road. The first bay projects forward under a gable. A coved cornice runs along the top. The first bay includes a shop front with curved windows and a leaded overlight above paired half-glazed doors. The second bay has a casement window with leaded upper lights. The first floor has a rectangular oriel supported by brackets with leaded lights. Above, to the first bay, is a four-light attic window. The corner angle features a Tudor-headed entrance with a half-glazed door. A canted first-floor oriel is present, featuring elliptical-headed windows and an octagonal drum with vertical bull's eyes, topped by an ogival cupola with an open stage with balusters and a short spine with a button finial. The return to the first bay of the first floor exhibits a two-light casement with a gable and flanking smaller lights.
