Description

Mornington Terrace is a terrace of five houses built in the mid-19th century. The terrace is located on Upper Duke Street and extends to Pilgrim Street. It is three storeys high with a basement, and each house has three bays. The building is constructed of brick with a stone base, a stone string course, a cornice, and a parapet. It has a slate roof. A forward break in the centre of the terrace, at number 33, is surmounted by a pediment. The windows have gauged brick flat arches and are sash windows, most retaining glazing bars. The entrances have plain reveals, semi-circular heads, inset wood doorcases with panelled pilasters, lintels, fanlights (also with glazing bars), and six-panel doors. Number 37 has an entrance in Pilgrim Street on the return end of the block. Iron area railings with fleur-de-lys heads are present. A frieze bearing the lettering "MORNINGTON TERRACE" is located on number 33.
