Description

The direction stone located at the corner of Thingwall Lane is a Grade II listed structure dated 1776. It is a tall, slightly battered stone with an inscription on the top block that reads 'ROAD TO BROAD GREEN'. On the left side, it states 'ROAD TO/ THINGWELLME/ THOROUGFARE', while the right side features 'J.C/1776'. The rear of the stone displays a cross moline, which is associated with the arms of the Earls of Sefton. There are also remains of an iron object on top, which may have been a lamp.
