Description

The railway bridge, built between 1829 and 1830, was constructed for the Liverpool and Manchester Railway, with engineering by George Stephenson. It is made of dressed stone featuring ashlar dressings and has a round arch. The abutments are designed to sweep forward, with coping extending across the top and down the sides to short round piers that have caps. There is also a round-arched extension to the south.
