Church, 1837-8 by John Dewhurst. Red brick with some sandstone dressings and slate roof. Rectangular plan, with corner clasping buttresses carried upwards as square turrets. North and South walls each of 8 bays, alternate bays separated by buttresses of shallow projection. Beneath the stone cornice is a projecting band carried on brick corbels. The 2 rows of narrow windows have plain reveals, an outer rebate, and round heads. A brick string rises over each. The west wall has continuous arcading on the 1st floor with similar details, alternate openings being blank. Above, under the gable, is a circular stone plaque with chevron border. Flanking the west door, above the impost band, are 2 windows. The west door has a round arch of moulded bricks, which form 2 quarter-columns at each side, with stone capitals and bases. Around the head is a chevron design in brick. The east window is of 3 stepped lights with round heads. Under the gable is a circular stone plaque. The corner turrets have 2 blank openings on each of their sides, and stone cornices. The interior possibly had 3 galleries originally, but now has a modern west gallery. The roof has trusses with tie beams and king posts, and queen struts with pendant bosses, braced downwards to the walls. The 3-decker pulpit is of grained timber with Romanesque details, A reredos is formed by blank arcading with attached shafts and scalloped capitals, beneath a super-arch.
