Description
The Banks War Memorial is a granite structure that stands 2.5 metres tall. It features a Latin cross atop a square shaft, which is set on a three-stepped plinth that rests on a simple square base.
On the south face of the memorial, there is a dedication to the First World War, with names inscribed in incised and painted lead letters. The dedication spans the upper two steps of the plinth, while the names are located on the deeper, lower step. The inscription on the top step reads: "THEIR NAME / LIVETH / FOR EVERMORE." The middle step states: "IN HONOURED MEMORY OF THE / MEN OF BANKS / WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR / 1914 – 1918."
The western face of the plinth commemorates the Second World War, also in incised and painted lead letters. The dedication is on the middle step, which reads: "ALSO IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF / THE MEN OF BANKS WHO / DIED AS A RESULT OF / WORLD WAR II 1939 - 45," followed by the names inscribed on the lower step.
