Description

The building is a coach house and stables dating from the 18th century, located approximately 20 metres east of Asmall House. It is constructed from handmade brick set on a high sandstone plinth, topped with a stone slate roof. The structure is arranged in a U-plan, featuring a 5-bay main range oriented on a north-south axis, with projecting wings on the west side and outshuts on the east side.

There are opposed wagon doorways; one is located between the wings on the west side and is sheltered by a porch with splayed cheeks and a wooden gable. The other doorway is recessed between the outshuts and is covered across the opening. A weather vane is mounted on a square stone pedestal at the centre of the ridge.

The gabled two-storey wings have distinct features: the left wing includes external steps leading to a segmental-headed loft door, flanked by two-light casements that retain their original diamond-lattice glazing. The right wing has two large doorways with massive stone jambs and lintels, and on the first floor, there is a wide segmental-headed 5-light window. The right-hand return wall features two loading doors at the first floor.

Inside, the coach house boasts king post roof trusses with Y-struts, along with original stalls and loose boxes.
