Description
This is a row of four cottages located at 47-53 Parliament Street, likely built in the early 18th century and consisting of two separate constructions that have been altered over time. The cottages are made of coursed sandstone rubble with stone slate roofs and brick chimneys. They are probably double-depth and feature single frontages.
Cottages 47 and 49 are two stories tall with attics, while 51 and 53 are also two stories. Each cottage has one window on the first floor, and there is a vertical joint between the two sections. The doorways are positioned to the left of each cottage and feature wooden doorcases with restored board doors.
Cottages 47 and 49 each have a three-light stone mullioned window on both floors, including low gabled dormers in the attic. These windows have slightly recessed chamfered mullions, with drip-bands above the ground and first-floor windows. Cottage 51 has a three-light casement window on each floor, while cottage 53 has two-light casements on the ground floor and three-light casements above. The windows in cottages 51 and 53 are similar in proportions to those in cottages 47 and 49 and also feature drip-bands.
