Description
Pickerings Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century or earlier, with a late 18th-century extension. It has been converted into two cottages. The building is constructed of brick on a stone plinth, with some parts rendered. The roof has two levels; the first level is covered with corrugated iron over thatch, while the second level features slate at the front and stone slates at the rear, complete with two gable chimneys.
The original structure has a two-bay baffle-entry plan and stands at one and a half storeys. It is cruck-framed and clad in brick, with the front and left end rendered. There is a door at the right end of the second bay, an upper window breaking the eaves to the left of the door, and two ground floor windows, all of which are sliding sashes. The left end wall, which is buttressed, has a similar window on each floor, and there are three additional windows in the rear wall. A low outshut is present at the rear of the second bay.
The extension at the right end is one bay, double pile, and has two storeys with an attic. It features a door on the left and one casement window on each floor. The right end wall has one ground floor window and an attic window, while the rear has one window on each floor and a stairlight window offset to the right. Inside, the earlier building reveals visible cruck blades and an inglenook with a bressummer in the second bay.
