Description
The Old School House is a school house dated 1690, although it is said to have been built in 1673. It has been converted into a house. The building is constructed of pebble dashed brick and features a stone slate roof with gable chimneys. It consists of two bays and is two storeys high, with later extensions added at the rear. The front of the ground floor has a modern flat-roofed extension, while the first floor has two three-light casement windows. At the left end of the first floor, there is a large datestone inscribed in relief with the names:
ANDREW . DANDY MARGARET . DANDY
WILLIAM . DANDY ANDREW . DANDY DANIEL . DANDY ANNODOMINI . 1690
The right return wall features a partly external chimney and a blocked former doorway with a canopy beside it. The rear of the building has been altered. An adjoining house is located at the left end, but it is not included in this listing. Inside, the first floor has an exposed cambered tie beam with a stopped chamfer.
