Description

St. Saviour's Church of England School is an early 19th-century school building constructed from stone, with coursed and squared stone at the front and rubble at the sides and rear, topped with slate roofs. The building has a rectangular plan and is a single storey, featuring three parallel ridges of roof that create three equal gables at the left end. At the right end, the roof rises to cover the front and middle sections of the building, forming a small assembly hall.

Designed in a Romanesque style, the school includes lesenes, a Lombard frieze that continues onto the gables, and stone mullion windows with round-headed lights, which are linked at the level of the heads by a thin string course. The front facade is 10 bays long and features a gabled entrance that slightly projects in the fifth bay. This entrance includes a round-headed door flanked by lower round-headed openings, which are now glazed at the heads but otherwise blocked. Above the entrance are three stepped single-light windows. Except for a tall two-light window serving the hall, all front windows have three lights. The right gable has a much larger three-light window, while the left end features a round-headed door with a hoodmould, a three-light window in each of the other gables, and a small trefoil opening near the apex of each gable. The rear of the building has four large rectangular windows and five single-light round-headed windows, arranged irregularly. This school building complements the Church of St. Saviour, located on the opposite side of Church Road.
