Description

Anderton House is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th century that has been altered over time. It features a cruck frame and is clad in sandstone rubble, with the lower level rendered and whitewashed. The roof is steeply pitched and made of corrugated iron, with boxed eaves and brick gable chimneys. The building has an end-baffle-entry plan with three bays, where the left-end bay was likely used as a shippon or stable in the past.

The east front has a board door near the right end, protected by a wooden porch, and another door at the first bay. There are three ground floor windows, consisting of three, two, and three lights, all with wooden mullions and glazing bars but of varying sizes, with the lower window on the left and the higher one on the right. Gabled dormers above the second and third bays contain similar two-light windows. The right gable, which has been rebuilt in brick, features a two-light sliding sash window in the loft.

At the rear, there is a central doorway with a wooden porch similar to the front, flanked by two small square fixed windows with nine panes each, showing some remains of labels. The first bay at the rear has been rebuilt in brick. Inside, there is a full cruck truss at the junction of the second and third bays, although details are concealed. The housepart in the third bay includes an inglenook with a stop-chamfered bressummer and two similarly decorated beams.
