Description
36-38 Todmorden Road is a former row of three cottages, built in the late 18th century. The cottages are constructed from watershot coursed sandstone and feature a stone slate roof with a single chimney on the ridge. They are two storeys high, with each cottage comprising one bay. The building is situated on a slope, resulting in the ground floor of No. 36 being raised above road level.
The plain doorways of Nos. 38 and 40 are coupled, with the left doorway partly blocked, while No. 36 has a similar raised doorway. On the ground floor, Nos. 36 and 40 each have one stepped triple-light window, whereas No. 38 has an altered window in a significantly enlarged opening. On the first floor, all cottages feature two stepped triple-light windows, although one light of the right window at No. 38 is blocked. The rear of the building was not inspected. These cottages were likely used for domestic weaving.
