Description

The Talbot Hotel is a public house dating from 1779. It is constructed of coursed watershot sandstone, with the front wall rendered, and has a slate roof. The main front of the building has three bays and features sash windows without glazing bars, set within plain stone surrounds. The entrance has an architrave, with a moulded plaque above, now damaged by a sign, originally inscribed with the date 1779. Chimneys are located at the ends of the building and on the gable of a right-hand unit; this unit is partially obscured by a wing projecting at a right angle. The wing's return wall has a wide entrance with a segmental arch and a projecting keystone, with a sash window above in a plain stone surround. The front wall of the wing is blank. To the right of the wing, connecting it to the adjacent property, is a narrow unit with a wide entrance in a plain stone surround. The left-hand gable of the main building features moulded kneelers. A re-used double-chamfered window with the mullion removed is located on the first floor. An outshut extends from part of the rear wall, with sashed windows and glazing bars in plain stone surrounds; one surround incorporates fragments from the 17th century.
