Description

The Post Office and John Brabin's House, built in 1668, is a house and shop constructed from sandstone rubble with a slate roof. It has two storeys. The Post Office, located at No. 20 on the right, features a sashed window with glazing bars on the ground floor and a four-light mullioned window with an inner hollow chamfer, outer chamfer, and a hood on the first floor. To the left, there is a studded plank door with a chamfered surround and a triangular head.

John Brabin's House at No. 22 has end stacks and a studded plank door to the right, which also has a chamfered surround, a triangular head, and bears the inscription 'IB 1668' on the lintel. The ground floor has a continuous drip course that has been cut back. To the left of the door, there is a window surround with an outer chamfer and inner hollow chamfer, featuring a central mullion between two sashed windows with glazing bars. Adjacent to this is a 19th-century plain stone surround for a triple sash window. On the right side of the first floor, there is a three-light mullioned window with a hood mould, outer chamfer, and inner hollow chamfer. To the left, there is a one-light chamfered stair window at an intermediate level. The building has stone gutter brackets, and the left-hand chimney cap features a moulded coping and weathered offset. The rear wall includes double-chamfered mullioned windows. The interior is said to have been modernised but retains an old stair and a bread oven.
