CASTLE GATE 1. 5295 (South-West Side) Outbuilding and stable block to Clitheroe Castle and Premises occupied by Ribble Valley Borough Council SD 7441 1/2A II GV

  1. Mid C19, Gothic, incorporating fragments of old stone. Mid C19 coursed stone with Welsh slate roofs. 2 storeys. Outbuilding to left has mullion and transom windows beneath rectangular dripmoulds, irregular and similar dripmould to arched door in ashlar porch to right, crenellated parapet. Archway with small court to rear with lancet windows. Crenellated section to right with breakforward on carved brackets, with 3 ventilation slits below, square turret. Stable block of 1 storey in rough stone has 1 circular window above segmental-headed entry with keystone. 2 lancet windows in square headed architrave. Elliptical-headed entry. Later sliding doors to carriage entry. Small gable with round-headed window, and door and window in stone surrounds.
