Description
The turret from the Houses of Parliament is located in the gardens of Clitheroe Castle. It serves as the centerpiece of a pond in the rose garden to the south of the castle. This octagonal stone turret features four lions rampant with shields at its base, a plinth, and lancet ornamentation with cusped heads. It also includes gargoyles and crocketed finials. An inscription on the turret notes that it was originally part of the parapet of the Houses of Parliament, which was built between 1840 and 1854. The turret was presented to the Borough of Clitheroe by a local Member of Parliament in 1937 to commemorate the coronation of George VI.
