Description

The barn at Oxendale Hall Farm, located southwest of Oxendale Hall, dates back to around 1600. It features a cruck frame with walls made of sandstone rubble and brick, which have replaced the original timber framing, and is topped with a slate roof. The east wall includes an open lean-to made of corrugated iron situated between two wide entrances; the left entrance has plain reveals and a concrete lintel, while the right has brick reveals. To the right, there is a lean-to addition with a stone slate roof. On the west wall, there is a lean-to shippon covered with a corrugated asbestos roof.

Inside, the barn boasts three large cruck trusses with outriders, where the blades are connected by yokes below the ridge and spurs tie them to the wall posts. The southern truss has had its high collar removed, and it is unclear if the other trusses originally had collars or tie beams. The north gable wall features a former closed truss with straighter cruck blades made of lighter timber, a collar that extends to meet the outriders, a sill beam, and other timber framing showing signs of wattle infill. The two southern bays of the barn are separated by an open king post truss with raking queen struts and jowled wall posts. Some straight wind braces remain, and sections of the wall plate indicate that the walls were once timber framed.
