Description

Church Stile Farmhouse is a house from the mid-18th century, constructed of pebbledashed rubble with a slate roof. It features a double-pile plan and stands two storeys tall with an attic, comprising four bays. The windows are sashed with glazing bars and have plain stone surrounds. The entrance door, located in the third bay, consists of six raised and fielded panels and is framed by a plain stone surround with a false keystone. There are chimneys on the gables and one to the right of the left-hand bay, with the middle and right-hand chimneys featuring 19th-century ashlar caps. The gables are topped with copings and kneelers. The right-hand gable has a one-light attic window that retains the remains of a 17th-century surround, while the left-hand gable has a double stone wall. At the rear, there are two-light windows with plain stone surrounds and square mullions on each floor, in the inner wall, and the outer wall has plain stone surrounds for these windows. The rear also includes a rebated and chamfered cross window, a blocked chamfered door surround that has been converted into a window, and remnants of other 17th-century surrounds reused on the first floor. Inside, there is a 19th-century staircase with stick balusters and a turned newel.
