17/88 Church Stile Farmhouse

GV II

House, mid C18th. Pebbledashed rubble with slate roof. Double-pile plan. 2 storeys with attic, 4 bays. Windows sashed with glazing bars and plain stone surrounds. The door, in bay 3 and of 6 raised and fielded panels, has a plain stone surround with false keystone. Chimneys on gables and to the right of the left-hand bay. The middle and right-hand chimneys have C19th ashlar caps. The gables have copings and kneelers. The right-hand gable has a one-light attic window with the remains of a C17th surround. The left-hand gable has a double stone wall. Towards the rear there is a 2-light window with plain stone surround and square mullion on each floor, in the inner wall. The outer wall has plain stone surrounds to these windows. At the rear is a rebated and chamfered cross window, a blocked chamfered door surround now a window, and the remains of other 17th surrounds re-used on the 1st floor. Inside there is a C19th stair with stick balusters and turned newel.
