Description

Saint Mary's Well is a rectangular walled pool, featuring outer stonework made of coursed stone and inner stonework of uncoursed stone, topped with stone-capping. The floor is flagged, and a solid stone gangway divides the pool into two unequal sections. In the larger section, there is a solid square block of stone that is worn in the center. This well, along with others in Wellgate and Parsons Lane, served as the only water supply for the town until 1852.
